SPOKANE, May 23 [Herald] — Spokane's Indians waded through three Tri-City hurlers last night to notch their fourth season victory over the Braves. It was the third straight loss for the Tri-City club, but they held to their fourth place spot in the Western International league, a half game in front of Tacoma.
Lou McCollum, the only pitcher heretofore who has been able to stop the Spokes, found the going a bit rough last night and was derricked in the second. Dick Stone, who came on in the second was charged with the defeat, his first of the year. Bob Costello finished on the Braves' hill. The two teams play a single game tonight and finish their current series with a twin bill on Thursday before the Braves return to Sanders Field to meet Wenatchee, also over a four-tilt route.
Vic Buccola, Tri-City's and the WIL's leading hitter, continued his amazing pace by clouting Spokane's Dick Bishop at a .600 clip last night. Buccola got a double and two singles in his five trips to the plate.
Tri-City jumped into the lead by scoring five runs in the first inning, but couldn't hold back the murderous bats of the rampaging Indians, who bounced ahead in the bottom of the second. Tri-City caught up even in the fifth by adding three more but the Indians kept on going anyhow.
