VANCOUVER, B.C., May 18 (CP)—Vancouver Capilanos used two two-run innings Friday night to defeat Victoria Athletics 4-1 in the opener of a four-game series.
The A's scored their lone run in the first inning on four singles. Charley Mead homered with none on in the second to tie it up and catcher John Ritchey's single behind Gordy Brunswick's double scored the winner.
Caps added two more in the fourth. Reno Cheso doubled and came home on the wild throw as he stole third. Ritchey walked and went the rest of the way round when pitcher Pete Hernandez' long fly was lost in the lights.

KENNEWICK, May 18 — Spokane rightfielder Edo Vanni scored a home run with his head tonight only it was for the opposing team and the officials ruled it a double.
It happened in the fifth inning of the Western International Baseball League frame
here between Spokane Indians, and Tri-City Braves.
Tri-City rightfielder Clint Cameron drove a fly ball against the fence. The ball bounced back, hit Vanni on the head and then popped over the wall and out of the park.
Vanni was laid out cold but is expected to be back in the Spokane lineup Saturday.
Meanwhile, relief pither Bob Roberts smothered a fifth-inning Tri-City rally and went on to pitch one-hit ball as Spokane defeated the Braves 7 to 4.
Roberts came on after Tri-City had poured across four runs off starter Jim Holder and trailed by a 6 to 4 score. Two of the four Tri-City runs came on Buddy Peterson's homer with one aboard.
Two Tri-City hurlers gave up 10 hits and 13 walks in support of Roberts.

SALEM, Ore., May 18 — A three-run upsurge in the seventh inning gave Salem a 4 to 3 win over Yakima here Friday night.
The winning runs came on a walk, an infield single by George McDonald, a three-base hit by Norman Grabar and Bill Beard's single.
The victory was the fourth of the season for Salem hurler Bill Bevens.

TACOMA, May 18 — Garry Clark patched seven hit ball Friday as Tacoma turned back Wenatchee 8 to 2. The victory enabled Tacoma to move into seventh place and left Wenatchee in the cellar.
