YAKIMA, June 3 — Bill Brenner's home run slugging and a three-hit pitching chore by righthander Warren Noyes enabled the Yakima Bears to sweep both ends of a Western International league baseball doubleheader with Salem Sunday.
Yakima took the opener when Brenner snapped a 2 to 2 tie in the bottom of the 10th inning with a home run.
Noyes spaced three hits in the nightcap to give Yakima an easy 7 to 0 victory. Noyes' effort gave him a 1-0 slate for the season.

TACOMA, June 3 — The Spokane Indians and the Tacoma Tigers split a Western International league baseball doubleheader Sunday afternoon.
Spokane won the opener 7 to 4 on the strength of a five-run rally in the ninth. A two-run single by Steve Mesner and a three-run triple by Ken Richardson were the big blows.
The Indians nearly pulled the second game out of the fire by scoring three runs in the seventh but Tacoma pushed across a run on three singles in its half of the seventh for a 6 to 5 victory.

Chiefs Release Rounds
WENATCHEE, June 3 — Carl Rounds, a righthander rookie pitcher from Oroville, was given his outright release by the Wenatchee Chiefs of the Western International league Sunday night.
The 18-year-old hurler appeared in 10 innings this season as a relief pitcher. Rounds' release
puts Wenatchee one man under the WIL 17-player limit.

Soriano Quits Game
SAN FRANCISCO, June 4 — Dewey Soriano, who held the unique distinction of being a pitching president of a professonal baseball club, announced his retirement from the game yesterday.
The 31-year-old San Francisco Seal relief pitcher said he was quitting because "I didn't feel as though I was helping the club and didn't feel right in continuing to accept a salary."
He was pitcher-president of Yakima's Western International league club last year. Soriano broke into baseball with his home-town Seattle Rainiers and later went to the Major leagues before coming back west after the war.
In announcing his retirement, he indicated he may join the Merchant Marines. He served as a ship's captain during World War II.

SHEKBEOOKE, Que., June 3 — The city council ruled Saturday that unshelled peanuts are a fire hazard and banned their sale at the Sherbrooke baseball park.
The aldermen say the fans drop the shells on the wooden floor of the stands,' scuff cigarette butts into the shells and could start a fire.
Salted peanuts are okay.
