SPOKANE, July 1—Bare knees and a lightning bolt attracted almost as much attention as the baseball games in Sunday's Western International league play in Spokane. The Indians donned shorts then promptly dropped a 6 to 1 decision to Wenatchee in the opener of an afternoon-night doubleheader.
About fifteen minutes after the stands had cleared, a lightning bolt sliced into the park causing a suction that whisked away peanut shells and other debris left by the customers. A dozen youngsters hired to clean out the bleachers were out of a job. Only minor damage to a transformer was reported.
On the baseball side, Will Hafey helped Wenatchee to win by a clouting a 369-foot home run in the sixth [sic]. Lyle Palmer hit a three-run double in the first inning and leftty Lou Tost tossed a six-hitter. Spokane also dropped the second game as Wenatchee made good use of 13 hits to post a 9 to 7 triumph.
